.5 Miles One Way ** Strenuous
On a clear
day the view from the parking area is exciting, but from the
summit of the Waterrock Knob is even more breathtaking. On a
cloudy day, you may be able to stand in the parking lot and
experience the clouds as they come up the mountain and flow right
over you.
The Waterrock Knob Trail begins in the parking area of the Waterrock Knob Overlook (restrooms are available here). The first half of the trail is paved. Continue on past the paved trail until you reach the top of the 6,400 foot summit.
Of all the trails located on the "Blue Ridge Parkway", the Waterrock Knob Trail attains the highest elevation. This is one of the first trails you will come to on the Blue Ridge Parkway after leaving the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
